3. An entry fee of $25 if you are entering under the option to receive a cash prize - see rules below. Entry fees will not be returned under any circumstance.

Contest Rules

Applicants must submit a completed and signed application/release form and send two copies of the original, unpublished manuscript written in the English language.

There is an entry fee of $25.00 U.S.D. However, multiple stories by the same author do not require an additional fee. Fee may be paid by cashiers check, personal check or money order and remitted with application(s) and manuscript(s). (Please see our FAQ page to find out more about what this fee covers)

Multiple submissions are allowed with a maximum of 5 stories per author, and must be submitted together with the contest entry fee. Please fill out an application form for each entry and remember to include 2 copies of each story.

Stories should be appropriate for children, between the ages 0-10, with a maximum length of 1,200 words.

Stories will be divided into two age groups. Stories written for children aged 0-5 will be judged separately than those written for children aged 6-10. Please mark your submission appropriately. After selecting the winning story for each age group, we will then choose one of the two to receive the $500 cash prize.

Stories will be judged based on creativity (75%), appropriateness (10%) and clarity (15%). In the case of a tie, duplicate prizes will be awarded.

Contest starts April 1, 2006 and submissions for the Contest must be postmarked no later than the contest deadline of July 15, 2006. The ADG: ACHIEVE-THE-DREAM™ Children's Story Writing Contest reserves the right to extend or adjust the entry deadline or other dates for the competition at any time without notice.

Submissions will be accepted by mail and must be the original work of the applicant.

Submissions may not be based, in whole or in part, on any other fictional or non-fictional previously published or copyrighted work of another. Applicants may not have entered into any prior option or sale agreement with respect to the submitted work.

Provide a coversheet that includes the essay title, word count, entrant’s name, address, phone number and email (if applicable). Please remember to include what age category your story falls into: 0-5 or 6-10.

Do NOT include personal information on the pages of your submission, as this helps keep the judging process fair. (Essay title and page numbers are allowed.)

Under no circumstances will substitutions of corrected pages or new drafts of the entry manuscript be made. Submitted manuscripts and/or any additional enclosures will not be returned.

Submitted manuscripts should be in standard format typeset of at least 12 points on 8 1/2" x 11" paper with minimum 1/2" margin. Please refrain from using fancy or script fonts.

ADG assumes no responsibility for lost, mutilated, or misdirected entries.
