down, it can be bad for your health. Psychiatrists at the
University of Bergen in Norway studied 62,591 people from the
years 1995 through 1997. The study revealed a correlation between
anxiety and cancer. Those who received high scores in anxiety
were approximately "25% more likely to have pre-malignancies
- abnormal cells that can turn cancerous."
As reported in The Week, researchers conclude that
stress, depression, and anxiety suppress the immune system, resulting
in increased cancers. However, the study was unable to exclude
other contributing factors, such as poor eating habits, and smoking.
